From 3D printing to virtual reality simulations, three-dimensional technology captured the attention of K-12 educators at this year’s ISTE Conference in Philadelphia.
As we reflect on another year at the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) conference, we recognize the emergence of 3D technology as an essential tool in the classroom.
The annual ISTE Conference and Expo introduced cutting-edge technologies and ed-tech innovations, including a variety of 3D learning solutions.
3D Printing
3D printing is the process of creating three-dimensional objects from a digital file. This technology has already revolutionized a number of industries, from food to cosmetics—but where is its place in the classroom?
3D printing allows students to bring their ideas and projects to life; it can also transform a boring, complicated lesson into an interactive, hands-on example.
Tinkerine, a Canadian manufacturer of 3D desktop printers, offers a specialized 3D printer for education called Tinkerine U. Tinkerine U provides a space for students and teachers to collaborate and develop ideas for projects or lessons.
Desktop Virtual Reality
zSpace, a 3D technology company based out of Silicon Valley, introduced its new virtual reality learning tool at ISTE. The all-in-one virtual reality program, called zSpace for Education, allows students to learn concepts by manipulating different objects (e.g., a human heart) via touch-screen computer monitor.
The zSpace platform lets users virtually interact with objects using a stylus and 3D glasses. Along with zSpace for Education, the company offers other learning solutions, such as VIVED Anatomy for zSpace. VIVED Anatomy for zSpace allows users to learn anatomy in an immersive, interactive way.
3D Technology in Education: It’s all about visualization
3D technology helps students become more engaged in learning topics and retain more information. Complex concepts are easier to understand when students are able to visualize them.
The ISTE Conference showed us that 3D technology for the classroom is on the horizon. We are excited for the future of 3D learning tools!
At VIVED Learning, we empower students and teachers with innovative, interactive STEM resources. Our platform contains over 1000+ fully dissectible 3D models, across STEM subjects such as Anatomy, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology and more.
